# Overlays

The app can place information directly in the camera picture. The camera renders it itself – so it is visible in **every** stream of the camera, including recordings and at YouTube.

> **Tip:** To try things out without a running stream, switch on **Show overlays** at the top. The preview switches itself off after 10 minutes.

*Found under: **Overlays**.*

![Overlays](https://2278918606-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FP8ymyTQn1iAckTEFEpO0%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-dec15be87081b9ab670a7ae746118883ca8e462b%2Feinblendungen.jpg?alt=media)

On the left you see the live picture with all overlays and, below it under **Status**, what is currently on. On the right, each overlay has its own card that you open with a click – with a switch and **Position** (corner of the picture). Changes show in the picture after a second or two.

## Appearance

Applies to all overlays together, so the picture looks consistent.

| Field | Choice |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Colours** | **Dark**, **Light**, **livespotting** (brand colours) or **Automatic** – light by day, dark at night, based on the position of the sun at the location. |
| **Size** | **Small**, **Medium**, **Large** |

## Viewing direction

A compass shows which direction the camera is looking – on pan-tilt cameras also while it turns.

1. Switch on **Show viewing direction**.
2. Align the camera once and enter under **Viewing direction now (°)** where it is looking right now: 0 = north, 90 = east, 180 = south, 270 = west.

If a PTZ camera pans, the app keeps track of the direction by itself.

**Direction unknown?** Under *Align using an object in the picture*: point the camera so that a known object – church tower, lighthouse, mountain peak – is exactly in the centre of the picture. Enter its **coordinates** (for example copied from Google Maps with a right-click) and click **Calculate direction**. The [camera location](/stream-adapter/en/standort.md) must be entered for this.

## Time & location

Shows date and time, optionally with a place name in front.

| Field | Choice |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| **Place name** | optional, e.g. “Melle” |
| **Date** | 30.10.2026 · 10/30/2026 · 2026-10-30 · no date |
| **Time** | 14:05 · 14:05:09 · no time |

The camera's clock applies. Set the correct time zone and a time server (NTP) in the camera.

## Ticker

A scrolling text at the bottom of the picture, for example for notices, offers or greetings. Switch on **Show ticker** and enter the **Text**.

## Graphics & logos

Your own pictures in the camera picture, for example from sponsors – with rotation, time windows, a counter and a monthly report. This lets you market the space in the picture.

**Places and formats**

| Place | Aspect ratio | Recommended size |
| ---------------------------------------------- | ------------ | ---------------- |
| Top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right | 2 : 1 | 800 × 400 |
| Bottom centre, wide | 6 : 1 | 1200 × 200 |

**Uploading pictures:** **Choose and upload picture** – PNG or JPG, at most 10 pictures. Other aspect ratios are fitted without distortion; the rest stays transparent. A PNG with a transparent background looks best. With **Link as QR code**, the app places a QR code on the right of the picture that viewers can scan with their phone.

**Rotation:** Each place shows its pictures in turn – each for the **display time**, then a **pause**, then the next. A picture can be limited to a time of day, to weekdays or the weekend, and to a number of showings per day.

**Report for sponsors:** **Download month (CSV)** delivers per day and picture how often it was shown and how many seconds it was in the picture – to pass on to the sponsor or as the basis of an invoice. The file opens in Excel. The column “Impressions” fills in as soon as the livespotting platform delivers viewer numbers. **Reset counters** starts counting afresh.

Three demo graphics are included out of the box. **Restore demo graphics** brings them back if you deleted them.

> **Note:** If very many live views are open on the camera at the moment, the app hides graphics & logos for a short time – compass, clock and weather keep running. Close live views you do not need; the graphics come back by themselves within 15 minutes.

## Weather data

Weather in the picture has its own chapter: [Weather in the picture](/stream-adapter/en/wetter.md).
