# Setup in 3 minutes

When you open the app for the first time, an assistant guides you through the setup. It has four steps: **Camera – Destination – Connect – Live**. You can skip it at any time and continue later; the [Overview](/stream-adapter/en/uebersicht.md) then shows a card **Continue setup**.

You restart the assistant via the **question mark at the top right → Run setup again**.

## 1. Camera access

The app needs a user of the camera to fetch the picture.

* **A user with viewer rights is enough.** Ideally create a dedicated user in the camera just for this app.
* Enter user and password and click **Check & continue**. The app tests the access immediately and tells you if it does not work.

## 2. Where should the camera send?

| Choice | When |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **livespotting** *(recommended)* | Free account – the camera sets itself up: stream destination, location and weather, nothing to type in. Optionally more reach in the [Content Hub](/stream-adapter/en/livespotting.md#content-hub). |
| **YouTube direct** | Live on your own YouTube channel; you control the broadcast in the app. Also needs a free livespotting account. See [YouTube direct](/stream-adapter/en/youtube.md). |
| **Own credentials** | You have received a stream ID and token, for example as a partner. You enter target server, stream ID and token yourself. |

## 3. Connect to livespotting

The app shows a **QR code and a short code**.

1. Scan the QR code with your phone or open the link.
2. Sign in or create a free account.
3. Check that **the same code** is shown there, and confirm.

You never enter a **password on the camera**. As soon as you have confirmed, the assistant continues by itself. More under [livespotting account](/stream-adapter/en/konto.md).

## 4. Done – this is what it looks like

You see a preview. **Start stream** sends the picture out immediately. **Start later** keeps everything set up but does not send yet. If you chose YouTube, **Continue to YouTube** takes you to connecting your channel.

Time, logo and weather are added afterwards under [Overlays](/stream-adapter/en/einblendungen.md).

## “The app is not running right now”

This page appears when the interface is there but the service behind it does not answer. Usually the app has not been switched on after installing:

1. Open **Apps** in the camera's web interface.
2. Switch on the **livespotting Stream Adapter**.
3. The page continues by itself as soon as the app is running.

After an update or restart this only takes a few seconds.
