# Installation & updates

## The right package

The app comes in two builds. Which one you need depends on the camera's chip:

| Camera chip | Package |
| ------------------ | --------------- |
| ARTPEC-8, ARTPEC-9 | `…_aarch64.eap` |
| ARTPEC-6, ARTPEC-7 | `…_armv7hf.eap` |
| ARTPEC-5 and older | not supported |

You find the chip in the camera's data sheet at Axis. If you pick the wrong package, the camera simply refuses the installation – nothing breaks.

> **Tip:** Always take the package whose name starts with `signed_`. It is signed by Axis and can also be installed on cameras that only allow signed apps.

## Installing

1. Open the camera's web interface and sign in as administrator.
2. Go to **Apps** and choose **Add app**.
3. Select the `.eap` file and confirm.
4. **Switch the app on.** Axis does not start uploaded apps by itself.
5. Click **Open** on the app. The first time, the [setup assistant](/stream-adapter/en/einrichtung.md) starts.

> **Important:** From AXIS OS 12.10 the camera checks whether the app matches the firmware and otherwise refuses the installation. Keep the camera up to date – the app is built for AXIS OS 12.

## Updating

Upload the new `.eap` file exactly as during installation, **over the installed app**. That is an update: all settings are kept – credentials, destination, overlays, graphics.

The app itself tells you whether a new version exists, see [Updates](/stream-adapter/en/system.md#updates). It never installs anything on its own.

> **Caution:** **Uninstalling deletes all settings of the app.** Only uninstall if you really want to remove the app – it is not necessary for an update. **Disconnect beforehand** under [Account](/stream-adapter/en/konto.md) and [YouTube](/stream-adapter/en/youtube.md): uninstalling does not return the permissions at livespotting and Google, only disconnecting does.

## Which version is running?

The version is shown at the bottom of the app and in the menu under **Info**. Always include it when contacting support.
