# Weather in the picture

The app shows current weather data in the camera picture – as the forecast of a weather service or as real readings from your own weather station.

Under **Overlays → Weather data**, switch on **Show weather data** and choose the **Weather service**. The app refreshes the values from the weather service every 15 minutes, from your own station much more often.

## Where does the weather come from?

**Automatic** takes the weather from the account on a camera connected to the account, otherwise OpenWeather.

**Different place for the weather:** Normally the weather comes from the camera's location. If it should come from a different place – for example from the nearest town in the valley – enter it here or find it with **Search place**. Empty means: camera location.

### Your own weather station

* **Davis via the WeatherLink cloud:** Enter **API key** and **API secret** and choose the **Station**. To try it out without a station of your own there is the **Davis demo station**.
* **WeatherLink Live on the local network:** Enter the **IP address** of the WeatherLink Live. The camera must be able to reach it on the network.
* **Ecowitt, WeeWX or JSON:** Choose the **Type of station** and enter its **Address on the local network**:
  * **Ecowitt gateway** (GW1100, GW1200, GW2000 – also Froggit and Bresser)
  * **WeeWX** with the *loopdata* extension
  * **Other** – your own JSON address, for example from Home Assistant, Node-RED or a script

Under **Readings** you choose what should be in the picture – wind, temperature, precipitation, pressure, humidity, dew point, feels-like temperature, UV index, solar. Values your station does not deliver are greyed out. The **Wind unit** is km/h, knots, Beaufort or m/s.

## What it looks like in the picture

### Weather from the weather service

| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Line** | symbol, temperature and conditions in one box |
| **Card, small** | like the wetter.com weather widget: place, symbol, date, temperature, conditions |
| **Card, large** | plus the next three days |

![Weather card in the wetter.com design](https://2278918606-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FP8ymyTQn1iAckTEFEpO0%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-6a0b91633626c89a234fdf44b51ba8a465afa8fa%2Fwetter-karte.jpg?alt=media)

On the large card, **Forecast** determines what is at the top: **Current** shows the temperature now, **Summary** today's low and high. The three columns below show the **next three days** with symbol, low/high and conditions.

> **Note:** If the weather comes from **wetter.com**, the app draws the card in the **wetter.com design** – with their typeface, colours and weather symbols: light by day, in wetter.com blue at night. Clock, compass and ticker keep the app's design. With **Show wetter.com logo**, the wetter.com logo is shown on the card.

### Readings from your own station

The console comes in sizes **S**, **M** and **L**. Under **Design of the console** you have the choice:

* **livespotting** – like the other overlays.
* **wetter.com LIVE** – in the typeface and colours of wetter.com, with the logo “wetter.com | LIVE”. Meant for stations shown by wetter.com.

The header of the console shows the station name and the time of the reading. The green dot with **LIVE** (or “wetter.com | LIVE”) only appears as long as the readings are fresh – otherwise the dot is grey.

> **Note:** Weather data only appears when the app has fresh data. If the weather stays missing, check location, key or the connection to the station, see [Troubleshooting](/stream-adapter/en/fehlersuche.md#no-weather-in-the-picture).
